Tonight, I had a dilemma. To start with, I had plans; I was going to the boy’s house, and he was making us dinner, before watching the football (England were playing tonight). Unfortunately, this plan fell through, as plans do sometimes. The only thing wrong with it was that I had put too much hope and expectation on it, and had been looking forward to it all day, and when it fell through, well, dayum, I was disappointed. I felt sad. For around an hour, I felt this way. Then, after having a rest, in the dark…I put the light back on and decided to be happy. I made a fort (yes, yes, I did), I put fairy lights in the fort, I made some soup…and I crawled into the fort and did some reading on the blogosphere. Why am I telling you this…? Because I think it’s important. It’s important to learn how to pick yourself up again, to regain your footing with your friend, who goes by the name of Happiness. You have the power, and I am learning that more and more all the time. Sure, tears can fall from time to time, but remember to open yourself to the possibility of happy moments again.
It’s not easy. It’s not. Going from a bad hour, to a good hour…well, it’s hard work. But, let me tell you, it’s doable. Boy, it’s doable. I’m in my fort. It’s cosy. And it was made out of sadness, sadness that gave way to happiness. My happy fort. Life doesn’t always go according to plan, and that goes for the small things as well as the big things; but if you can learn to dance in the rain, to sing a happy melody when things have turned sour, then you’re taking the harder road, but it’s a road that will be ultimately happier. It’s a lot easier to give in to the bad thoughts, to become consumed by them, and so if you can turn a frown into a smile, you’re taking the harder path. The harder path…but it’s a lot more worthwhile, and it’ll give you much better memories to look back on. Okay, okay, enough slushy talk.
After reading some blogs, I stumbled onto Pinterest again…and I found more inspiration. One came in the form of a quote:
“Happiness is a form of courage.” – George Holbrook Jackson
Hey, what do you think of that? It’s what I’ve been trying to say here, all compressed into a single line. It’s a good line. I hope you like it as much as I do. Happiness and courage; who knew they were such good friends? I hope you’re all having a great day, and have made the most of the extra day…remember to smile.
(Edit: here’s a picture of the fort…sorry for the poor quality, the only lights are the fairy lights…)
