Cake, oh, cake. The big sis made the Cookies and Cream ones, which are in the middle, and I made the Egg Nests. They all went down a treat, on Friday. Here’s hoping that you’ve all been having a good weekend, full of chocolate, I hope!
365: Day 92
4 AprSunshine, check. Morning cup of tea, check. Cookie for breakfast, check. Grass, check. Bare-feet, check. Woah, hold it. A cookie, for breakfast? Grass? Bare-feet…? What is going on?! Well, I was naughty, yes, and a little mad, yes, but if you can’t be naughty and mad, every once in a while, then where’s the fun in that? We’re all mad here…
365: Day 76
19 MarFriday night; the boy and I had planned to go into London, but I was tired, and he didn’t mind staying in. Friday night; we got a curry, watched My Week with Marilyn (10/10), and then hung out with his sisters (J&V) and J’s boyfriend. All in all, it was a good Friday night in. This keyring (in the photograph) was from our first summer together, in 2007, and it’s a memento from our first holiday in Norfolk. It was a lovely week, in which we went on day trips to Great Yarmouth, Norwich, cycled to villages, and lazed around at the camp-site…happy, summer days.
365: Day 67
8 MarLast night, the sis and I went round to one of our friend’s house, for a lovely (vegetarian!) dinner. It was good. It was yummy. And best of all, and I feel the need to stress this, it was vegetarian. Perfect. I find it awkward, when I go to dinner parties, and I’m the only vegetarian. You get fussed over. People say “oh…you’re vegetarian? I’ll sort something out for you.” and it makes me feel bad, like I’m giving them extra work to do. Which meant that last night was really good, because there was none of that pressure. Good conversation; that’s one of my favourite things about going to a friend’s for dinner. What do you love about dinner parties?
The Long Ache
24 FebIt is Friday afternoon, and I am patiently (I like to think) watching the hours pass by. The reason being is that I have a horrid ear infection, and since yesterday, it has been a constant pain. For the last week or so, I had a little ache, but it was coming and going, and nothing to write home about…until yesterday. I went out, saw some lovely people, but as the day went on, my ear was starting to hurt more and more. By the time it was 5pm, I had to take out my hearing aid, because it was getting rather uncomfortable. Then talking and eating was awkward too, as any movement of my jaw was sending my ear into a tantrum. Sucks. Ear infections are no fun. Appointment today is close to 6pm, so I’ve still got over an hour to go…never thought I’d be looking forward to going to the doctor’s!
Beside from the ear infection, things are good. Saw my good friend Helena yesterday, and whenever I’m with her, I feel happy. We’re lucky, as we have the kind of friendship that can withhold absences of months (last year, we didn’t see each other for almost the whole of the year!), yet when we’re together, it’s like no time has passed at all. It all slots back together. I’m glad I have friendships like those. Absence isn’t necessarily a good thing, but when both parties are busy, then it helps to know that although you can’t always see one another, the friendship won’t fall away. It gives you a slight peace of mind. That’s not to say, though, that we don’t keep in touch! Not at all! Hardly a week goes by when I won’t receive a text, or a Facebook notification from her. We had lots of smiles yesterday.
The evening brought some good moments too, and good moments are my favourite. Last night’s good moments included: introducing two good deaf friends to one another, eating good pizza with the big sis, and our two friends, giggles over stories, talking about “wahmbulances” (basically an ambulance, but with a “wah” incorporated…so you can say “call me a wahmbulance” when you’re moaning about pain, fitting since I was wah-wah-ing about my ear by the evening!)… Lots of good moments, and they’re the ones to look out for. Even if your day isn’t going so well, you can turn it around again, if only you look out for the good moments, and there are bound to be some. Sometimes our days are made up of good and bad moments, but hopefully the good moments will outweigh the bad.
So, whilst my ear is aching, I am trying to keep busy. Checking emails. Making lists. Drinking hot drinks. Tumblring. It’s working a little bit, but then I’ll rush up the stairs, or bend down, and the blood rushes to my ear and it hurts again. But it is now 5pm…and it’s less than an hour until my appointment. Ah ha, blog posts help to make the time go by sometimes! My plan: make another hot drink, read some blog posts, and then before I know it, it’ll be time to leave for the doctor’s. It’s a plan, Alan. Plan bam. Hopefully your Friday has been better than this! Also, since I can’t at the moment (too much movement makes my ear hurt, bah), let out a little cheer and a giggle for me…as it is now the WEEKEND. Celebrate good times, come on…
365: Day 48
19 FebLondon…isn’t it a beautiful city? I met up with another friend, also called Jenny…and we had a picnic in Covent Garden, then strolled towards the Thames, marvelled at the night-time view, before spending some time in the Royal Festival Hall…and it was a lovely night, a night that proved you don’t need money to have a good time. Picnics are in, I’m telling you…they’re making a comeback…no matter what time of the year it is!
365: Day 42
12 FebLast night, my good friend Lizzie came round…and this is what we did! Pizza, film, chocolate and a little catch-up…those are the ingredients for one of the best nights, and I have a little collection of best night recipes, this is certainly one of them. Saturday night out? Saturday night in. Life is good.
