Saw this advert on TV last night…absolutely love it.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

The calm after the storm…

19 Sep

Why does it always seem as if things are better after they’ve reached a boiling point? If you’ve had an argument, it’ll either be okay afterwards or, as Diddums said in a recent post, you’re walking on eggshells. It amazes me how children are able to adapt sometimes; after a playground argument, they’ll be best friends again – and the next day or the next week, the argument will be forgotten. But with adults, it seems as if we’re so reluctant to let go sometimes. We’ll have an argument or disagreement with someone and if we’re okay with each other again, the next time you fall out, you can’t help but drag up all the previous disagreements…why can’t we take a leaf out of children’s’ books? They seem like they have it all sussed out…but then again, they will most probably have their parent(s) to go home to.

In my last post, I blogged about my relationship with my mother at the moment and how I feel unsure about things, particularly after she’s made comments about my life-style at the moment. It seems as if I’m the happiest I’ve been in a long time, I’m contented with the way things are going for me; I’m just about the start my new course in October; I’ve had a job offer or two; the relationship with my boyfriend is on a high at the moment; I’m happy that my sister is home again and her man is home today too; and I seem to be keeping up with close/good friends… Had a health scare in the family this week but luckily it turned out to be something not as serious as we thought, when this sort of thing happens it makes me appreciate everything so much more. Which is why I was so baffled as to why my mother kicked out last night.

There’s been two separate job possibilities this week. Firstly, I went back to my beloved theatre company and I’m going to be working there a little bit every week and helping out with a project, with the possibility of it leading to a paid job next year, which I’m quite excited about as I have actually missed the company this last year. The second possibility is a paid TV drama job, I’ve got an audition next week…so I’ll see how that goes. If there’s any budding performers (deaf/hearing impaired young adults) out there (within the age group of 16-19, although I am 20 myself…) then leave a comment and I’ll give you the details about this, it’s an opportunity not to be passed up. Then there’s also the jewellery stuff which I’m hoping to launch this month or next… Quite a few interesting ventures there, and I haven’t even started the new course yet!

I am going to miss the friends I made at uni a great deal over the next few months, and possibly even the next two years but I know that it won’t be a decision I’ll regret. It’s almost as if I already had the necessary theatre experience before I went away to uni, so although there were some aspects of the course I enjoyed, for the most part, I didn’t enjoy it. The best thing I’ll take away from the course with me is the friendships I’ve made. The year before I went to uni, I desperately wanted a group of friends with whom I could get along with everyone in the group and actually access the group’s banter, and I found this (for the most part) at uni; but I’ve realised that in order to be happy with your life, you need a combination of things to be right. Yes, it’s great to have close friends around you because most of the time, they’re the ones who can get you through things, but you also need other areas of your life to be right. I’ve never understood how so many people stay in their jobs being unhappy when they could be so much happier in other jobs and actually pursue their dreams if they have the resources available to them. So, why not, I ask?

I hope you can find the calm after the storm and follow your dreams to your heart’s content: listen to yourself and find your dreams.

Reminiscing old times…

5 Aug

Saw a close friend the other day, and we spent a few hours talking…about random stuff, anything that popped up really. Whilst we were talking, we were thinking about all the ‘midnight feasts’ we used to have when we were little…all those sleep-overs at each others houses, when we tried to stay up until midnight…and then eat junk food…pretty much! We’d go out in the day, beg our parents to let us get things like popcorn, chocolate, ice-cream…it makes me chuckle because whilst we probably thought we were being incredibly clever, and thought that we were keeping our midnight feast a secret from the adults; they probably knew exactly what we were up to, and they were probably up just as late as us to make sure that we were okay! Most of the time, we would fall asleep before midnight and then the alarm clock would wake us at midnight…and the feast began…it’s a wonder we didn’t throw up afterwards.

Also going to the pub in a few days time to meet up with a friend that I haven’t seen in ages…I’m guessing that there’ll be more reminiscing to come…

The film ‘Crash’ was on Film4 last night, but we missed the start so I just popped on the DVD at about 10 and we watched it all over again. It’s such a powerful film, with very strong undertones, that for me, it takes my breath away sometimes – there’s some scenes that make me squirm in my seat and provoke so many emotions in me that it’s like going on an emotional roller-coaster! All the different lives in the film end up colliding, in some way or another, that it makes you wonder about your own life – how many times have you walked past someone in the street, maybe you’ve seen them before? Definitely a film I’d recommend.

Right, have a ‘To Do’ list that I need to obey today so I’d better get a move on, as always.

Here Comes The Sun

27 Jul

One of my favourite songs is Here Comes The Sun by The Beatles (written by George Harrison) :

Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
And I say it’s all right

Little darling, it’s been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling, it feels like years since it’s been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
And I say it’s all right

Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces
Little darling, it seems like years since it’s been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
And I say it’s all right

Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes

Little darling, I feel that ice is slowly melting
Little darling, it seems like years since it’s been clear
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
And I say it’s all right

Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
It’s all right, it’s all right

It’s one of those songs that always seem to bring a smile to my face when it’s played. Personally, I think it’s quite a fitting song for everything that’s happened recently! Hopefully (fingers crossed), things will be looking up a bit now.

I’ve been reading Play, The Nylon Book of Musica lot lately, just keep dipping into it when I get a chance and it’s really inspiring! It has different chapters, some are: Icons, Influences, Mixtapes… If you’re a music lover then it’s a book well worth buying. It includes magazine-style interviews with musicians and even members of the general public (with photographs to accompany), asking questions about who inspires them and who their style-icons are…all in all it’s a music-tastic book!! My older sister got it for me last Christmas, she sure does pick out some good presents – even if I am biased!

Planning on putting together another photo-book, probably with Blurb (www.blurb.com) because they offer a wide range of tools when you’re putting together a book and you can insert large amounts of text…basically a good service overall! May put together a photo-book of the photographs from Cornwall…and another for the Spain trip…photo-books are a great way of physically viewing your memories…rather than keeping the photographs on the computer – whatever has happened to the time-old trend of passing around photographs from your last holiday?! Those were the days – mind you don’t put your finger-prints all over the photograph young lady!!

Sitting next to my laptop on my desk is a black and white jellycat – her (or his…) official name is Billie Black Kitten Tot…I’ve yet to give her a personal name, even though I’ve had the gorgeous thing for over two years I’m guessing! She keeps me company when the real cats are off exploring the garden or taking a nap on the sofa…oh to be a cat for a day, wouldn’t that be lovely? Here is a picture of what my jellycat looks like (or similar) :

I know some people may turn their noses up at this series, but I love the One Tree Hill series (even though I’m twenty now) and missed last week’s episode!! I tried to remember to watch the repeat last night on E4 but missed that too…grrr! My own fault though! Might try and look on E4.com and see if they show it on there…and hopefully if they do, it will have subtitles… Arguably, there are some series, or even episodes in some cases that are better than others in the series but I still like it none-the-less. I’ll even admit that at times the dialogue can be cheesy and unrealistic…but there’s nothing wrong with that from time to time! Some people love 80′s cheese…I guess I like (some…not all) 21st century cheese! Haha!

Right, as always there’s things I need to get done today so I’d better get a move on. Hope everyone gets a bit of sunshine today – speaking of which, the sun just came out and shone down on the garden…a little optimism goes a long way.
