Not a creature was stirring…

24 Dec

…not even a mouse!

Yep…Christmas Eve has finally landed upon us. For me, it’s mainly been made up of wrapping presents, putting the finishing touches on the house and just basically a mad dash to get everything done in time for Christmas! The last few weeks have been a tad crazy, as the father has been making cupboard doors from scratch, for under the stairs, which has caused everything else to be put on hold, mostly the Christmas decorations. The only thing we had done was the Christmas tree/Living room decorations, but everything else was yet to be put up. Luckily, the cupboard doors are now complete, thus the Christmas decorations are (finally) all up!

How have/are you spending your Christmas Eve?

The rest of the night shall be spent either: in the pub with the boy or at home with the family. Since the boy is not yet here yet, I’m guessing that it will be the latter, which is perfectly fine with me. We have our Granny staying with us for Christmas, and this is always lovely. Maybe it’s just me, but it feels like when she’s here, everyone tries just a little bit harder to make Christmas sparkle.

This year, I’m attempting to make a makeshift Photobooth…for a couple of months, I’ve been collecting picture frames, and bits and bobs, and I want to round up a load of Christmas props – hats, reindeer head-pieces…and then just set the camera up on a tripod so that everyone can snap away. Hopefully it’ll work…fingers crossed.

Here’s to a great Christmas to you all, hope you have a very merry time and are full of Christmas cheer and spirit. With love and best wishes, Sarah x

The stars, they shine for you.

Look at the stars,
Look how they shine for you,
And everything that you do,
And they were all yellow.

Absence.

1 Jul

Wow; have definitely been on a bit of a blog hiatus recently. Words just seemed to have not wanted to flow, and my mindset has been a bit scattered. Things have been unnecessarily pulling me down – the biggest thing has been the change in my hearing, and attempting to adjust to it has been more difficult than I thought it would be. You would have thought that because I am already deaf, losing more hearing would not actually make that much difference, but it has. A lot. Hearing makes up such a big part of our everyday lives; we are alerted to things around us by the sounds they bring, and after all, we do live in a “hearing world”. Slowly, I am learning to adjust to it all, it will certainly be quite a long journey ahead but I am sure I will get there eventually – “this too will pass”.

Generally I have not felt much of a draw to blogging recently, evidently, as the last post I did was back in April, yikes! Not sure at the moment whether I will keep blogging on this blog or start afresh with a new one…we shall see. It is almost as if a new chapter is waiting to begin, and it will be interesting to see where the wind wants to take us. Sure, there will always be good moments, as well as bad moments; and often the high points come after a lot of climbing upwards. Right now, each day is both exciting and scary – exciting to face new challenges, but scary because of the prospect of finding ways to overcome those challenges, but it will all be worth it, it is all worth it.

So, just keep enjoying the small things (and it is definitely worth going over to the blog – listed on the right…) and just hold on in there, whoever you are, whatever you’re doing, whatever you are going through, because there is always light at the end of darkness :)

Sanctuaries

For a lot of people, their bedroom is the room that they escape to. It’s the room that they can make “theirs”. For some, their bedroom is the room that reflects who they are, the epitome of them. I try to make my room as happy as I can; it is full of photographs, postcards, music, colours and ornaments. I have a daybed (from IKEA, of course!), strewn with cushions; above the bed is my fabric-covered noticeboard, with my “mood-board” – images, quotes etc that make me smile; my bookcase is crammed with books (and ornaments…so I think I need a lesson in how to de-clutter, as it looks a bit too busy…yikes!)… The colour of the walls is a Pop blue. I chose this colour when I was 7-years-old; my Pop (my mum’s dad) had died when I was 6, so I chose the colour because it was called “Pop”, and it was also blue, my favourite colour. I’ve never changed the wall colour since, it’s just the perfect colour for me, and it has a lot of sentiment behind it. Gradually, over the years, my room’s furniture has all changed to the colour white, as this balances out the colour of the walls, and lends a relaxing atmosphere to the room.

My room has seen me go through a lot; tears, laughter, anger, stress, joy…it’s seen it all. If you’re lucky enough to have had the same bedroom throughout your life (as I have), then there’s often an attachment we form with room; within the walls, we expose so much. Sanctuaries are there for a reason.

The best medicine…

25 Mar

…is, of course, laughter! I love laughing and giggling and smiling. Got a good dosage of giggles at signing class tonight; it was that silly, contagious laughter, the type that erupts when you look at someone in the eye…and burst out laughing, for no reason! It can go on for ages, because once you start laughing, and I mean really laughing, you can’t stop – especially if it keeps bouncing off the person you’re with! It just goes back and forth, back and forth. It’s lovely. It’s these memories that I’ll treasure, because it’s the perfect essence of goofy happiness! I like goofy. And I like happiness. Win – win!
